Communist Party of Britain

Future Events

A party organising for the future

The Communist Party has plans for the future. We are focused on fighting the battle of ideas, tackling the immediate effects of capitalism especially unemployment, inequality and austerity, organising workers to uproot the power of the monopolies and opening up the road to socialism. In the immediate future we plan major events, which we want you to get involved in.

The CP is carefully monitoring the situation as Britain emerges from lock down, so that workers can organise, gather and protest. The following elements are planned and awaiting the right opportunity..

Salute the International Brigaders

The CP will be organising, in cooperation with the International Brigades Memorial Trust a weekend of solidarity to mark the contribution of the Volunteers for Liberty regardless of party affiliation, if any. We plan to hold wreath ceremonies and public gatherings at the many statues and commemorative spaces dedicated to the Brigaders.

Red Lives

Publishing on 1 August 2020 and available from our online store. In September 2019, the editors wrote out calling for testimonials of ‘ordinary and rank and file activists of the CP and YCL’ so we might publish a compendium of biographies. The response was so overwhelming, we have agreed to publish a second volume. What emerges is a picture of remarkable men and women who gave their all for a better world and did much to shape the society we live in. Price £9.99

The Reds – film

A centenary film The Reds, brings together previously unseen film footage of the struggle of organised workers and the Communist Party since the 1920s. Expect rare interviews with legendary figures and a thematic account of a hundred year struggle for socialism. The film is available as a free download at the CP youtube channel and is a great introduction to meetings.

Communist Party history

For the first time ever, the Communist Party is publishing a book spanning its entire history, to date. Other volumes have covered specific periods but this edition, the product of fifteen writers and edited by Professor Mary Davis, views a 100-year arc of political development, achievement and set-back, which closely mirrors the development of the workers movement in the 20th and 21st centuries. It is a must-read and will be made available at a very reasonable price, making it available to all.

Women and Class

A new edition of the Communist Party publication ‘Women and Class’ in book format, written by Professor Mary Davis is available from our online store. The book, which has sold out time and again, traces the roots of women’s exploitation and oppression, taking in contemporary debates and a call to action, in The Women’s Charter.

Travelling exhibition

A travelling exhibition is ready to hit the road as soon as the situation allows, and there are bookings the length and breadth of Britain. The exhibition is balanced to provide enough information for those who have never known the CP and others who know it well. In fact prior to March we had so many bookings, it was necessary to have three sets of the exhibition made, to cover all venues.

Future of work conference

The party is planning to organise a Future of Work conference, bringing together trade unionists and researchers, planners and campaigners to discuss Marxism and technology, including AI and how to fight for jobs.

Political education

New courses of political education are being developed and made available at the CP website where they follow a popular format, designed to encourage collective study and discussion. New courses in the pipeline include ‘Women and Class’, ‘establishing class organisation in workplaces’ and ‘anti racism and anti fascism.’

Cable street aniversary

In October, the Communist Party will host an anti racist and anti fascist event to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street. This will discuss the historical role of the party in the anti racist  and anti fascist movement. It will be an opportunity to discuss contemporary racism and fascism and demonstrate our continuing focus on the unity of working class communities.

Residential school for young organisers

The CP is bringing together the next generation of union and party organisers to acquire the skills of building the labour movement anew, at a residential weekend school, in the north of England. Following on from the successful Kevin Halpin School, named after a past CP industrial organiser, those attending will be able to use the full range of learning techniques to develop the politics and organising skills needed for class struggle. Some places on the course are open to those who are considering joining.

Digital steps – a new website

As the pandemic impacted, the CP built a new website packed with information and resources, using the latest technologies. This allowed us to conduct meetings, education and campaigning online. It’s linked to a database project which will open up a whole new layer of campaigning potential for local branches. In addition  we have established an all-Britain youtube channel, which will carry film of meetings and events.

New branches

Across England, Scotland and Wales the party has been growing, in some areas rapidly and where we have wanted to establish local campaigning capacity for a long time. New branches are being formed with the aim of taking the message of Britain’s Road to Socialism to every locality. If you want to join, go to our joining page  and you will be contacted by a local party representative. If you want to start a new branch with workmates or other activists, get in touch.

Young Communist League centenary

April 2021 starts the centenary of the Young Communist League, which intends to celebrate its birthday in style and with a year of full-on campaigning. The Young Communist League has been busy opening new branches and conducting political education for its many new recruits. The best way to celebrate the centenary is to join Britain’s fast-growing revolutionary youth movement.
